Supplemental Security Income

Over 25 Years of Experience ◊ Representing People throughout the Chicago Metro Area

If you are unable to work, but don't qualify for Social Security disability benefits, you may be able to obtain compensation through the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. You want an experienced attorney to guide you through the process, one with the experience to know and understand the law and the process, one who has successfully helped others in similar circumstances.

At the law office of Christine M. Naper, in Chicago, I have over 25 years of experience handling disability claims, including SSI cases. I understand the stress and anxiety that come with not knowing how you will pay your bills and provide for your needs. I will work closely with you throughout the process, handling all aspects of your case myself, from the initial application for benefits as well as any appeals of denials. Contact my office or call me at 773-525-8952 to set up an appointment.

Helping You Get Benefits through the Supplemental Security Income Program

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal income supplement program designed to help aged, blind, or disabled people who have little or no income. It is a separate program from the federal Social Security disability benefit program, is not funded by Social Security contributions, and requires that you be financially eligible. Even if you have not worked long enough to qualify for Social Security disability benefits, you may be eligible for SSI payments.

To obtain SSI benefits, you must go through a lengthy and complicated administrative process. Many people who attempt to get SSI benefits without the assistance of an attorney fail to complete the process, simply because it is such a difficult process. Even if your claim has been denied, however, you shouldn't give up. I can help.

When you hire me to handle your SSI claim, I will...

  • review your application, as well as all necessary medical and financial information. You do not need an attorney to file your application, but many requests for benefits are initially denied. An experienced attorney can reduce the chances that your claim will initially be rejected.
  • respond to any letter of denial from the state by filing an appeal on your behalf requesting reconsideration. If necessary, I will gather and submit additional medical or financial evidence to support your claim. It is important that you understand, however, that there is a significant likelihood that your claim will be denied upon reconsideration.
  • request a hearing before an administrative law judge, should your claim be denied upon reconsideration. I will act as your advocate, representing you in all hearings and providing additional evidence as needed.

If your SSI claim is denied by an administrative law judge, you can request review by the Social Security Appeals Council in Washington, D.C. If that review is declined, a civil action challenging Social Security's denial can be filed in Federal District Court. I have represented clients at both levels of review with good results.

To schedule an appointment, e-mail me or call me at 773-525-8952. I handle all SSI claims on a contingent fee basis. I will not charge attorney fees unless I recover compensation for you.
